kaleidoscope
_
My interest lies in 3D textiles, and I wanted to explore transforming a 2D pattern into a 3D one, to create an object that is functional.
The material used to build this model is museum board that has been laser cut and hand painted with guache colors. The colors were intended to add a fourth dimension, emphasizing moments of light and darkness and creating a playful undertone resembling the effects of a kaleidoscope. Slits on 4 sides of the hexagon, carefully measured to accommodate the thickness of museum board and to fit the midway length of a hexagon. The hexagons are inserted into one another using cold connections, and the pattern grows in the x and y directions.
